The CF6-50C2 engine on an Air India Airbus aircraft in 1982 was the beginning of the relationship with India. Today, over 700 engines, equipped with GE Aerospace and partner technology, are deployed across Indian carriers, with another 2,000 on the horizon.

Our customers include Air India, Vistara, IndiGo for commercial engines, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Indian Airforce, and Indian Navy for defense engine technology.

    Defense and Systems

    At GE Aerospace, our legacy in providing military engines to India is robust, and enduring. We proudly supply jet engines, and marine gas turbines for numerous critical Indian military applications. Our technology powers the likes of the Indian Air Force's Light Combat Aircraft-Tejas Mk 1, and Apache attack helicopters, as well as the Indian Navy's vital assets including the INS Vikrant, P-8I aircraft, MH60R helicopters, and P-17 Shivalik class frigates.

    Our partnership with Hindustan Aeronautics for the F404-GE-IN20 engines has been instrumental in bolstering the Tejas program since its inception in 1986. With active collaboration with Defense Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) we are powering India's defense capabilities.

      John F. Welch Technology Centre
      Our John F. Welch Technology Centre (JFWTC) in Bengaluru has been the hot bed of aerospace engineering and research since the year 2000. Over the years, the team in India has helped with technology breakthroughs, and product innovation in areas such as jet engines, materials, and additive manufacturing.

      Since its inception, the engineering, and research teams at JFWTC have contributed to more than 4,000 patent applications in a range of industries including aviation.

      Our cutting-edge Multi-Modal Facility (MMF) located in Pune was established in 2015 with an investment of USD 200 million. The facility stands as a testament to our commitment to innovation, and excellence in aerospace manufacturing, developing local talent, and honing aerospace skills. Here, we produce components for various GE Aerospace and partner engine platforms, including LEAP and GE9X, ensuring the highest standards of quality, and performance.

      We partner with Indian suppliers, harnessing local expertise to meet the rapidly growing demand for aerospace components across the globe. Together, we are building a robust, local self-reliant (“Atmanirbhar”) supply chain, and propelling the future of aerospace manufacturing forward.
