GE Aerospace

A trusted partner in

India’s defense
For decades, GE Aerospace has played a key role in safeguarding India’s seas and skies. From powering next-generation fighter jets to supporting critical naval and rotary-wing platforms, we are committed to driving India’s defense capabilities forward. Our robust network of world-class engineering and manufacturing facilities, strategic partnerships, and a dedicated workforce have been the cornerstones of this commitment.

Our long-standing collaboration with Indian defense organizations, such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is at the heart of these efforts. Since 1986, we’ve partnered with HAL to deliver advanced engine technology that not only aligns with India's vision of self-reliance but also forms the backbone of the nation's indigenous defense programs.

Powering national security with pioneering technology

GE Aerospace powers some of India’s most advanced defense platforms, ensuring they maintain peak performance in the most challenging environments. Built on decades of aerospace innovation, the advanced technology in our engines ensures mission readiness.

Our F404 and F414 engines power India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, a symbol of the country’s growing prowess in indigenous defense manufacturing. Our engines also equip the Indian Navy’s P-8I aircraft, providing long-range reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities to safeguard maritime borders. Our propulsion systems support the P-17 Shivalik Class Frigates and INS Vikrant, ensuring the security of India’s waters. In the harshest of conditions, our engines power Apache and MH60R helicopters delivering the performance and reliability essential for India’s frontline forces.

A journey of collaboration and co-creation

By collaborating with the Defense Research and Development Organisation’s Aeronautical Development Agency, we help power India's defense capabilities. From our early partnerships with HAL to the recent cooperation to locally manufacture F414 engines for the LCA Mk-II, our journey reflects India’s defense evolution. This partnership, marked by precision manufacturing and knowledge sharing, stands as a testament to what can be achieved with a shared vision.

With its enhanced thrust, fuel efficiency, and adaptability, the F414 positions India’s defense forces for the future of air combat, ensuring readiness for tomorrow's challenges. These engines are also being considered for future platforms, such as the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft and India’s naval fighter jets.

Our most recent joint project was with the Indian Navy. In September 2024, the INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier, equipped with GE Aerospace LM2500 engines, entered into service— an important milestone that reflects our enduring legacy of partnership and innovation in India.
