$60 million

investment allocated for expanding MRO operations across EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa), with two facilities in Doha and Dubai.
Reflecting our commitment to the Middle East, GE Aerospace is directing a portion of the US$60 million investment in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) expansion activities announced in July 2024 to key projects in Doha and Dubai. This investment seeks to expand our regional service capabilities, reduce turnaround time, and bolster the state-of-the-art support we provide to our airline partners.

On Wing Support Centers: Keeping aviation soaring in the Middle East
In the region, GE Aerospace operates On Wing Support Centers in Dubai and Doha. These facilities support regional customers with critical repair and maintenance of GE Aerospace and joint venture partner engines. Staffed by skilled engineers and technicians, the centers provide rapid flight-line repairs, quick-turn in-shop services, and comprehensive training programs for regional airline MRO teams.

We are committed to nurturing local expertise and fostering a highly skilled workforce in the aerospace sector. In recent years, the two centers have provided training to 4,000 participants from more than 50 airlines.

In 2012, the Doha facility launched as the first On Wing Support Center in the region, with its operations based at the Qatar Science & Technology Park. It is certified by the Qatar Civil Aviation Administration, Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, and the US Federal Aviation Administration and services GE Aerospace, CFM* and Engine Alliance** engines, including the CFM56, GE90-115B, CF34, GEnx, and GP7200.

The On Wing Support Center in Dubai began operations from its 1,500 square meter Dubai South facility in 2018, bringing flight-line, quick-turn and spare parts capabilities to the UAE’s four main airlines: Emirates Airlines, Etihad Airways, flydubai and Air Arabia. It is certified by the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority, Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and services GE Aerospace, CFM and Engine Alliance engines, including the CFM LEAP-1A and CFM LEAP-1B engines.

Middle East Technology Center: Innovating for hot and harsh conditions
Established in 2015, the Middle East Technology Center (MTC) has become a key hub for GE Aerospace’s innovation in the region. The center focuses on addressing challenges posed by the Middle East’s hot and harsh environments, primarily by developing solutions that seek to extend time on wing, engine durability and improve performance, by partnering with airlines on engine wash analytics, flight operations insights and new on-wing technologies trials such as foam wash.

The MTC, along with global colleagues, has developed the Analytics Based Maintenance (ABM) solution that leverages big data analytics and deep aviation and aircraft engine knowledge to help airlines anticipate engine maintenance needs, optimize inspection schedules, and plan for engine maintenance. This cutting-edge technology allows for proactive decision-making and optimized operations, minimizing downtime and improving efficiency. Originally implemented with Emirates and currently serving more than 27 airlines in the region, ABM’s success has led to its adoption in countries such as India, Türkiye, Ethiopia, US, Canda, Japan, South Korea, and China. MTC continues to build on its strength as in-region capabilities, partnering with airlines and is playing a key role in developing AI solutions, including the next generation of ABM.

    Streamlining with

    FLIGHT DECK
Across all our facilities, we deploy FLIGHT DECK. It is the GE Aerospace proprietary lean operating model that eliminates waste and streamlines operations to reduce turnaround time and maintain the highest standards of safety and quality. Through FLIGHT DECK, we analyze processes and systems in our facilities and offices to identify efficiencies and other ways to deliver more value for customers.

FLIGHT DECK is instrumental in delivering safety, quality, and also delivery and cost improvements, with safety being our top priority. It is embedded in our purpose, “to invent the future of flight, lift people up and bring them home safely.”
