In our next installment of Quick Six, The Bike Shop sat down with Greg Gass, a director of strategic and Army programs at GE Aviation in Washington, DC.
How long have you been in your current position, and could you provide a brief overview of what you do?
I have been in this role since June of 2006 since I started with GE. Though the scope of the position has grown over the years, I still lead the Army team in developing a Service strategy encompassing short and long-term growth synchronized with Military Systems. In the end, we are customer representatives back to our Military Systems business.
How did you end up in this position? Did you always want to work in Aviation?
Prior to coming to GE, I spent 26 in the U.S. Army, most of that time as an Army aviator flying Cobras and then Apaches. Frankly, I ended up being in this role by being in the right place at the right time. I had many hours either flying or riding in Army helicopters powered by the T700, so when the opportunity to work for GE presented itself, I jumped on it.
What motivates or inspires you to work hard?
Knowing that our products are used 24/7 supporting America’s Warfighters who are putting their lives on the line defending this great nation and our amazing Constitution. America’s sons and daughters depend on us every day to provide nothing less than the best!
What has been a lesson you’ve learned while working at GE? Do you have any advice for other people?
Pick up the phone or walk down the hall! Technology is great, but there is nothing like being there.
What is your favorite engine and why, and could you draw a picture of it?
The T901 of course! It will bring tomorrow’s Army aviator the power, confidence and reliability they need to execute incredibly dangerous missions every day.
