GE Aviation’s Quick Six with Nina Tohill

April 04, 2017

GE would not be the company it is today without its employees. From working mothers to U.S. military veterans, GE has a diverse team that should be recognized and celebrated. So, we created a series called the “Quick Six”—six questions we are asking employees to help us learn about their talents and backgrounds. Together, GE works.

Nina

In our third installation of Quick Six, The Bike Shop sat down with Nina Tohill, a customer support manager in Cincinnati, Ohio.

How long have you been in your current position, and could you provide a brief overview of what you do?

I have been in my current role for 3 years.  As the customer support manager, I am responsible for all aspects of GE Aviation’s relationship with almost 100 of our commercial airline customers. I am their first point of contact for all technical questions and problem solving; I am the voice of the airlines I manage.

How did you end up in this position? Did you always want to work in Aviation?

My background is in Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering. I have always wanted to work on the most complex projects. I started as a design engineer, but I’ve always wanted to be close to the Airlines to help them, encourage them and bring value to their operation.

What motivates or inspires you to work hard?

Solving complex problems (technically or commercially) is what has motivated me throughout my career. My day-to-day is exciting! I have had the opportunity to fly on GE Aviation’s flight test airplane in California and have visited Boeing on their flightline. I have hosted commercial reviews in South America, organized jet engine seminars in Thailand and developed strong partnerships in Fiji.

What has been a lesson you’ve learned while working at GE? Do you have any advice for other people?

Continue to learn and grow. Complacency can become the easy path. GE continuously evolves and it’s important to be flexible enough to evolve with the company objectives.

What is your favorite engine and why, and could you draw a picture of it?

engine

The CFM LEAP is my favorite engine. It represents a long history of excellence and encompasses what our future holds. The CFM LEAP engine is a product of CFM International, a 50/50 joint company of Safran Aircraft Engines and GE.

What is one potentially surprising thing that people don’t know about you?

I love all forms technology (digital, airplanes, cars, complex machines) and figuring out how something works.  Being engaged with customers directly lets me explore that every day. I’m pretty adventurous and that translates into my motivation to stay at the forefront of change at GE.

I am also a big supporter of the March of Dimes and a volunteer at the local NICU. The video below explains the reason behind my passion for the organization.
