LYNN, Mass. – GE has released its Version 6.0 Software update for the CT7-2E1 turboshaft engine, introducing a number of benefits to civil and military engine operators. The software update introduces three key features that offer greater flexibility for operators:
- An increase in High Pressure Turbine exit temperature (T45) margin, thereby increasing time-on-wing and reducing operator maintenance burden.
- Implementation of Prognostic Diagnostic Based Modeling (PDBM), which provides an automated engine health check in the field. Version 6.0 software eliminates the need for manual engine health checks initiated by pilots, reducing pilot workload and improving the predictive maintenance requirements.
- Improved operator flexibility via Time Limited Dispatch (TLD), which allows limited-duration, critical missions when redundant systems require maintenance.
“We’re very pleased to offer this software update to the CT7-2E1 and improve an already great engine,” said Elissa Lee, CT7 Programs Director. “Our responsibility to customers is to continue to refine and optimize engine performance, maintainability, and cost, and the Version 6.0 Software delivers on all fronts.”
The -2E1 version of the highly successful CT7 family is designed with an emphasis on low fuel consumption, low cost-of-operation and with other technical features to ensure the aircraft requirements of long-range, high-speed and Category A performance. The engine leverages more than 100 million flight hours of experience from the T700/CT7 engine family while incorporating a state-of-the-art Full Authority Digital Control (FADEC) and advanced materials, primarily in the turbine section.
Since achieving FAA and EASA certification in 2013, more than 200 CT7-2E1 engines have been fielded with 25 customers. The 2,000-shp-class CT7-2E1 passed 200,000 flight hours in early 2021 and is one of the newest members of the T700/CT7 family of engines. It currently powers the Leonardo AW189 super medium helicopter and Leonardo AW149 helicopter.
