GE Aviation and India's Mahindra Aerospace to evaluate collaborative manufacturing opportunities for aerostructures

July 15, 2014

An agreement to pursue potential opportunities for manufacturing cooperation in aerostructures was signed today by GE Aviation, Hamble and India's Mahindra Aerospace at the 2014 Farnborough Airshow.

The memorandum of understanding will enable GE Aviation, Hamble – the Aerostructures business of GE Aviation, to define possibilities for placing existing work and to collaborate on new opportunities with Mahindra Aerospace of the Mahindra Group, one of India's leading business houses.

Signing the MoU were Stefanie Darlington, Sourcing Leader for GE Aviation's Aerostructures business and Arvind Mehra, the Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra Aerospace.

"Collaboration with Mahindra Aerospace will create additional manufacturing capacity with a strategically important and cost-effective partner, who has already demonstrated its capabilities in metallic aerostructures for a range of aircraft applications," Darlington said. "It will further expand our international supply chain and help enable GE Aviation, Hamble to meet its growth, delivery and cost goals."

GE Aviation, Hamble is part of GE Aviation's Structures operation, with its headquarters and primary production facility at Hamble-le-Rice in Southampton, Hampshire, United Kingdom.

"Mahindra Aerospace looks forward to establishing a highly beneficial cooperation with GE Aviation, combining the capabilities of two established companies, each bringing their own expertise to the collaboration," explained Mehra.

Created in 2007, Mahindra Aerospace extended the Mahindra Group's automotive design and manufacturing expertise to the growing aerospace industry. Through its components sector, Mahindra Aerospace acquired several companies with design and manufacturing experience – strengthening its capabilities in lower-cost production.
