TRUEngine MRO Designation Continues to Expand
FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW - The TRUEngine designation continues to gain significant customer acceptance, with engine enrollments expected to top 9,000 GE and CFM International (CFM) engines in coming weeks.
"The TRUEngine program continues to gather momentum as an increasing number of operators seek a simple means to demonstrate their engines have been maintained in GE and CFM configuration," said Kevin McAllister, President and CEO of GE Aviation’s Services organization. "TRUEngine designation provides significant benefits to operators including optimized product support, enhanced warranties and asset value protection."
Including announcements at the Farnborough Air Show, there are now 138 airlines particpating in the GE and CFM TRUEngine Program. The number of TRUEngine MROs also is expanding, with Evergreen Aviation Technologies (EGAT) of Taiwan joining as a CF6 TRUEngine MRO. Independent TRUEngine MRO shops include ST Aerospace (CFM56) and Standard Aero (CFM56 and CF34).
Launched in 2008 for the CFM56* engine family, the TRUEngine designation provides assurance to owners, operators, and engine buyers that engines qualified for the TRUEngine designation have been maintained in the respective GE or CFM configuration. A total of approximately 8,100 CFM56 engines have been enrolled to date. CFM56 engines are a product of CFM International, GE's 50/50 joint venture with Snecma (Safran).
The program has since been expanded to include CF6, GEnx and CF34 engines. Recent CF6 enrollments include Etihad, Qantas Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, and Aerolineas Argentinas. Recent CF34 enrollments include China Express and Rwandair, reflecting the broad acceptance of the program.
To qualify for the TRUEngine program, the engine configuration, overhaul practices, spare parts and repairs used to service an engine must comply with the respective GE- or CFM-issued engine manuals and other maintenance recommendations. The qualification is obtained through the customer's declaration of compliance and GE or CFM's verification of customer submitted maintenance records. There is no cost to participate.
Independent studies show that engines maintained with OEM parts and repairs maintain as much as 50% higher residual values compared to engines that include non-OEM parts or repairs.
