Iberia Adds GE's Services Solutions for Its Engine Fleet

September 29, 2011

MADRID, SPAIN -- Iberia has added GE's Services Solutions: myEngines&trade, Fuel & Carbon Solutions and ClearCore&trade engine wash system to help better manage its fleet, improve productivity, reduce operational costs and extend its engines' time on wing.

"Iberia is the first GE customer to utilize the entire Services Solutions portfolio for its fleet," said Huntley Myrie, Services Solutions manager for GE Aviation. "Iberia engine shop data will also be fed into the system so that myEngines could be utilized by its third-party customers to enhance their productivity and maintenance decision making capabilities as well."

GE's myEngines offers a variety of digital applications suites to help customers better manage their engine fleets and improve productivity. Since its launch in 2010, GE has expanded myEngines to eight application suites, including: Overhaul, Health, Config, Ops, Material, Fleet, Fuel and TRUEngine. myEngines can operate on a variety of smart phones, and electronic tablets, as well as laptops and desktop computers.

The Fuel & Carbon Solutions utilizes proprietary decision software and fuel-consulting expertise to help aircraft owners and operators reduce their fuel spend by an average of three percent on given segments. The Fuel & Carbon Solutions involves a three-step process:

1. Operational evaluation: Identify and collect data on the airline's current fuel and carbon reduction programs, and quantify where the customer is today.
2. Customized solution design: Further analyze data to isolate and prioritize potential improvements.
3. Implementation support and verification: Work with customers to implement changes, and then measure and validate savings.

GE's ClearCore engine wash system is an on-wing wash and full effluent collection system to help customers conserve fuel and reduce operating cost. While the amount of performance recovered varies based on operating conditions and wash interval cycle, ClearCore customers can see an improvement in exhaust gas temperature (EGT), specific fuel consumption and time on-wing. To maximize benefits, GE utilizes its diagnostic technology to determine the optimal wash for the ClearCore engine washes. Diagnostics is also used after a wash to determine the process' effectiveness.

ClearCore's full effluent capture system allows engines to be washed at the gate or in the hangar. The water collected from the wash is microfiltered and can be reused. An integrated vacuum system eliminates water pooling. Customers can purchase a full-service package with GE providing the washes or can purchase the equipment. The water collection system can be used with existing front-end washing systems.

Iberia Maintenance maintains the Iberia fleet and those of another 100 clients around the world. In 2010, it completed 122 major aircraft overhauls and repaired 200 engines and nearly 54,000 components. Iberia Maintenance is the world's ninth-largest aircraft maintenance company.
