GE Engine Services and EVA Airways Pursue Joint Venture Company

June 17, 1997

EVENDALE, Ohio - GE Engine Services and EVA Airways Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) to explore the formation of an engine overhaul and maintenance joint venture company at the EVA overhaul facility in Taiwan. GE and EVA officials signed the MOI on Sunday, June 15, at the Paris Air Show.

The joint venture company being pursued will provide engine overhaul services for EVA and other airlines. EVA will be the majority owner of the joint venture company; however, both companies will benefit from the synergies in joining the technologies and capabilities from both companies.

"This MOI furthers the long-standing relationship between GE and EVA," said Bill Vareschi, president of GE Engine Services. "By combining the considerable technical capabilities of GE and EVA in engine maintenance and overhaul, this joint venture company will provide state-of-the-art engine services capability."

"GE and EVA have enjoyed a very successful relationship and we believe this MOI will further build upon it," said Frank Hsu, vice chairman of EVA Airways.
