GE Driving Strong Engine Services Initiative in Asia

SINGAPORE -- GE Engine Services, Inc., the world's leading total aviation services provider, has convincingly demonstrated a strong commitment to Asia. In only three years, GE Engine Services has established eight Asian operations to service and support engines produced by GE, CFM, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney and IAE. "Asia is vital to our global support structure," said Bill Vareschi, president and chief executive officer of GE Engine Services. "Our new Asian facilities bring us closer to the region's customers while greatly enhancing our global service offerings." GE Engine Services' Asian facilities include:

  • GE On Wing Support (Xiamen) Co., Ltd.: Will dispatch "rapid response" technicians 24 hours a day, 365 days a year worldwide; also will provide quick-turnaround, on wing maintenance and repair, from Xiamen City, China facility, beginning in spring 2000.
  • GE Engine Services (Xiamen) Co., Ltd.: Joint venture with Xiamen Aviation Industry Co., Ltd., and Taikoo (Xiamen) Aircraft Engineering Company Ltd., to begin maintenance and overhaul operations in 2001.
  • Airfoil Technologies Singapore Pte. Ltd.: Capacity to refurbish one million airfoils per year. A subsidiary of Airfoil Technologies International LLC, a joint venture between GE Engine Services and TFX Sermatech International LLC.
  • Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corporation: Maintains and overhauls engines for Eva Airways Corporation and other Asia-Pacific airlines; located at Eva's Taiwan facility, created in 1999.
  • GE On Wing Support (Korea): Opened February 15, 2000 dispatches "rapid response" technicians 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to locations worldwide; provides quick turn-around, on wing maintenance and repair from its Kimpo Airport facility in Seoul, South Korea.
  • GE Engine Services - Japan, Corp.: Planned joint venture with All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI) to perform engine component repairs at Yokoshiba, Japan.
  • GE Engine Services, Malaysia - AERO 97: Joint venture with Malaysian Air Systems Berhad (MAS); overhauls and repairs engines for MAS and other Asia-Pacific airlines at Subang, Malaysia, facility.
  • GE On Wing Support (Malaysia) Sdn. Berhad: Dispatches "rapid response" technicians throughout Asia; provides quick turnaround on wing maintenance and repair from the Malaysian Airlines Aero facility in Subang.

To better serve Asia-Pacific airlines making Los Angeles their first U.S. point-of-entry, as well as U.S. customers, GE On Wing SupportSM has opened a facility at Los Angeles International Airport. GE also operates On Wing Support shops in: Luton and Heathrow, U.K.; Dallas, Texas; Cincinnati, Ohio; New York, New York; and Miami, Florida. In 2000, GE will open additional On Wing Support shops in Phoenix, Arizona, and Seattle, Washington. In 1999, more than 200 airline customers took advantage of On Wing Support and other GE Engine Services products, including:

  • Maintenance Cost Per HourSM (MCPHSM): Helps airlines better forecast operating costs by basing engine maintenance on a flat rate per engine flight hour to help lower material costs and improve cash flow.
  • GE Remote Diagnostics Services: Provides "real time" remote monitoring and diagnostic information during flight, thereby preventing costly delays and cancellations while extending on-wing life and reducing maintenance costs.
  • GE Spare Engine Leasing Program: Provides fleet flexibility by aligning spare engine leases with operational needs, helping customers plan beyond short-term engine rentals.
  • GE Engine Upgrade Programs: Infuse new material and technology into earlier-generation engines, providing value throughout an engine's life cycle.
  • GE Engine Services "Centers of Excellence:" Provide customers with a global network of overhaul and component repair shops. Besides GE's Asian facilities, Overhaul and Repair Centers of Excellence are located in: Nantgarw, Wales; Ontario, California; Strother Field, near Arkansas City, Kansas; Miami, Florida; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; Prestwick, Scotland; Petropolis, Brazil; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Cincinnati, Ohio, and also at Garrett Aviation Services' Total Aircraft Service SM Centers.
