GE Aviation Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Global Fleet Support Center in China

July 26, 2021

SHANGHAI, China — Today, GE Aviation celebrates the 15th anniversary of its global Fleet Support center in Shanghai, China. GE Aviation’s Fleet Support provides aircraft engine operators around-the-clock service with two global support centers—one site in Greater Cincinnati, Ohio, and the site that opened in Shanghai in 2006. The teams at both locations work together to offer 24/7 customer service and product support for an installed base of more than 37,000 commercial aircraft engines manufactured by GE and its partners.

GE Aviation established the Fleet Support center in Shanghai to support China’s growing civil aviation industry and respond to the demand for localized support services for China customers. Weiming Xiang, president of GE China and GE Aviation Greater China, said: “The Fleet Support center is the first of its kind support center set up in China by global engine or aircraft manufacturers. Since its establishment 15 years ago, its scope has also been upgraded from ‘in China, for China,’ to ‘in China, for the globe,’ growing from initially supporting about 3,000 engines operating in China to more than 37,000 engines in the world today. Our Fleet Support center stands behind every flight powered by GE and its partners’ engines to drive operational stability for airline customers."

The global Fleet Support center provides uninterrupted support for GE and its partners’ engines once they enter into service, including quick response to technical problems, emergency support for engine spare parts, collection and monitoring of real-time data, establishment of physical and mathematical models for analysis of engine health status, and customized fleet management solutions.

Thanks to GE Aviation's rich experience in engine operation and the physical and mathematical models based on large sets of operational data, the center has greatly improved its trouble-shooting efficiency. In addition, the Fleet Support center can also realize early detection of engine failure modes through digital platforms and algorithms. Combining these two capabilities, the team can help customers drive operational stability and reduce aircraft on ground time to improve the overall fleet utilization.

Over the years, the Shanghai Fleet Support center has also carried out many cooperation and training activities for airlines and provided bilingual trainings on remote diagnostics for customers in China and Asia Pacific regions. Up to now, more than 1,000 professional personnel have received the training.

Looking ahead, GE Aviation’s global Fleet Support center in Shanghai will continue to strengthen its local capabilities for technical problems solving, participate in the development and utilization of detection models for key issues of the global fleet and continuously optimize user experience. The Shanghai-based global Fleet Support center will continue to contribute to the long-term development of civil aviation markets across the world.
