First LM2500+ In Canada...

EVENDALE, OH - GE Marine & Industrial Engines (M&I) announced that Nuovo Pignone has ordered an LM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine, which will be the first LM2500+ in Canada. The gas turbine, which will be equipped with M&I's Dry Low Emissions combustion system and its High-Speed Power Turbine manufactured by Nuovo Pignone, will be used by TransCanada PipeLines (TCPL), Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The PGT25+ gas turbine package supplied by Nuovo Pignone will be installed at a TCPL compressor station and will drive a Nuovo Pignone pipeline centrifugal compressor. The LM2500+ is an enhancement of the proven LM2500 gas turbine materials and technology. The LM2500+ will achieve 40,200 shaft horsepower or 30 megawatts, and more than 40% thermal efficiency at ISO conditions.

Including this LM2500+, TCPL has a total of 27 GE LM aeroderivative gas turbines in compressor drive service throughout Canada, 14 of which are LM1600s and 12 that are LM2500s.

The LM2500+ gas generator for TCPL will be manufactured by M&I at its Evendale, OH facility, while the power turbine will be manufactured under contract to GE by Nuovo Pignone at its Florence, Italy facility. Commercial operation at the TCPL site is slated for mid-1998.

Nuovo Pignone is part of GE Power Systems and an M&I Original Equipment Manufacturer, headquartered in Florence, Italy. GE M&I is part of GE Aircraft Engines and is headquartered in Evendale.
