GE Aviation and Its Joint Ventures to Experience Robust Engine Deliveries in 2010

EVENDALE, OHIO -- On the eve of the biennial Farnborough Air Show in London, GE Aviation and its engine joint ventures expect to deliver about 2,000 commercial jet engines in 2010 -- an increase of 70 engines over the 2009 total. 

In addition to GE Aviation's nameplate engines for wide-body and regional jets, GE also produces engines in conjunction with: a 50/50 joint venture with Snecma (Safran Group) in CFM International, the world's leading supplier of commercial aircraft engines which produces the CFM56 family of engines that power the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft series; and a 50/50 joint venture with Pratt & Whitney in the Engine Alliance, which produces the GP7200 engines that power the Airbus A380 aircraft. 

GE Aviation, CFM and the Engine Alliance together have the industry's fastest-growing installed base of commercial engines in service, which is the foundation for long-term revenues and income in the services sector. 

From 2003 through 2010, GE, CFM and the Engine Alliance will deliver more than 14,000 jet engines, closing this decade with an installed base of 23,000 engines. Approximately 40 percent of the delivered engines have not yet received their first full-engine overhaul. 

Based on a record order book during this decade for commercial engines, deliveries by 2012 are expected to reach 2,300 engines. By 2015, GE, CFM and the Engine Alliance are expected to reach a remarkable 30,000 commercial engines in service. This includes GE's delivery of 700 GEnx engines to 28 customers by 2013 -- the fastest production ramp-up of a new large commercial engine in the company's history. GEnx engines will power Boeing's new 787 and 747-8 aircraft. 

In each of the next three years (2010, 2011 and 2012), CFM International is expected to deliver more than 1,200 engines.
