LE BOURGET, France -- GE Aviation has teamed up with Swiss International Airlines (SWISS) as their partner in an EFB flight safety project implementing Flight Pulse™ amongst their pilot community. The project aim is to evaluate its effect on further improving the pilot's performance.
While using data and technology, the project aims to further improve the performance of an airline pilot. The pilots will benefit from having direct access to their performance data through a mobile app. SWISS is supporting academic research in this area to better understand technical, operational, human factors and information that will lead to improved pilot performance. SWISS expects that FlightPulse is a key enabler in this effort.
"The FlightPulse project expands upon GE Aviation's digital solutions already in use by SWISS enabling them to get more benefit from a comprehensive use of flight analytics and services," said John Mansfield, chief digital officer for GE Aviation. "FlightPulse provides an additional benefit through this mobile flight data app that provides pilots with data and analytics to help them understand their performance, putting valuable information directly into the hands of the pilots."
The SWISS test pilot group will start using FlightPulse in September 2019, followed by a year-long evaluation. SWISS will be adding to the more than 6,000 pilots of other airlines who are already using FlightPulse to improve their operations.
"We are very excited to be partnering with GE Aviation to confirm the effectiveness of this application in helping pilots make better decisions, contributing to safe operations. We believe that this data will make a difference in the hands of pilots and look forward to proving this during the evaluation," said Captain Philipp Spörli, the SWISS Head of Flight Safety.
FlightPulse, uses recorded aircraft data and smart analytics to enable pilots to privately access their own personal metrics, trends and events. FlightPulse can be used to optimize efficiency, reduce operational risk, or any other outcome possible through advanced flight data analytics.
