U.S. Navy-GE Team Receives Defense Secretary T700 PBL Award

September 27, 2007

LYNN, Mass. -- The U.S. Navy-GE Aviation T700 Component Performance Based Logistics (PBL) Team was awarded the 2007 Secretary of Defense PBL Award for Logistics Excellence in the Component Category.

The award is in recognition of the T700 PBL team's development of a supply chain management strategy, PBL contract and execution methodology that improved warfighter mission capability, maximized material availability and further reduced the fleet's operating cost.

"We are proud to share in this award with our Navy partner and greatly appreciate the recognition," said Barry Burke, GE Turboshaft/Turboprop Services Director. "We will continue to demonstrate top-quality parts availability to ensure T700 engines have optimum performance and readiness."

Two T700 engines comprise the main propulsion and power system for both the Navy's H-60 Seahawk and AH-1 Cobra helicopters. The first three years of PBL performance (through June 2007) delivered an average 99% first-pass material availability (a 35% improvement), zero backordered requisitions and a price reduction to the Navy.

This initial success resulted in a subsequent two-year PBL contract modification issued in March 2007. Superior contract management, team communication, coordination and program management, combined with further refinement of PBL terms and conditions and the extension of PBL coverage, netted the Navy an additional $18.7M savings while further improving the scope and flexibility of warfighter coverage.

GE's successful T700/CT7 family of turboprop and turboshaft engines powers 25 types of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft in service with more than 130 customers in more than 50 countries.
