U.S. Army Extends GE Contract Valued At $78 Million In 2002

January 16, 2002

EVENDALE, OHIO - The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) and the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) at Corpus Christi, Texas, have signed a four-year extension of the teaming agreement with GE Aircraft Engines to supply helicopter engine parts and technical services. The contract extension covers calendar years 2002 through 2005. The 2002 award to GE Aircraft Engines (GEAE) is valued at $78 million.

Under the original agreement, signed in September 2000, GE supplies T700 helicopter engine parts and technical expertise to support the Corpus Christi Depot's overhaul programs. The Depot supports all AH-64 Apache helicopters for the U.S Army, all UH-60 Black Hawk, Seahawk and Pave Hawk helicopters for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force, and the AH-1W SuperCobra for the U.S. Marines. The contract extension will continue to support the Depot's efforts to reduce engine repair time and increase the rate of engine overhauls.

In the first year, the Corpus Christi Depot was able to accelerate engine readiness through improved engine repair and overhaul production rates by leveraging the GEAE parts pipeline and by applying process improvements recommended by GEAE. The teaming agreement provides improvements and new techniques to the Depot's overhaul. GEAE has personnel on site full-time to assist the CCAD.

"We are extremely proud of the confidence that AMCOM and CCAD have shown in GEAE to establish this unique teaming arrangement between government and industry," said Lynn Bowles, director of military services with Military Engine Operations at GEAE.
