CT7-8A Engine Presence Expands in Oil & Gas Market with Bond Aviation Group's Selection

February 14, 2012

LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS -- Today's announcement by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation that Bond Aviation Group has purchased 16 new S-92 helicopters to serve a growing global demand for offshore oil and gas platform services further extends the use of the CT7-8A (2500 shaft horsepower) engine to support this critical market. Delivery of 32 engines is expected to start in 2013.

The CT7-8A has amassed a total of more than 700,000 fleet hours, of which approximately 65% have been achieved in offshore oil and gas missions.

"Engine reliability and fuel efficiency are key requirements for economical helicopter operations in the offshore oil and gas segment," said Ed Birtwell, vice president and general manager of Turboshaft Engines at GE Aviation. "We are grateful for the continued confidence of operators like Bond Offshore Helicopters in the CT7-8A engine as a key component of a very successful S-92 helicopter program."

Certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration in 2004, the CT7-8A combines state-of-the-art technology with proven T700 design architecture for maximum mission performance. These powerful engines feature Full Authority Digital Electronic Control (FADEC) for improved cockpit information and reduced pilot workload, plus advanced and commerciallyproven components for added durability. Future engine improvements are currently in development to keep pace with planned improvements in the S-92 helicopter.

The CT7/T700 family boasts more than 60 million operating hours in civil and military experience worldwide. Its modular design, which retains the installation envelope of earlier CT7/T700 models, combines with superior erosion/corrosion features to ensure easy maintenance and lower life-cycle costs.
