FedEx Express selects GE Aviation engines for its Boeing 767 Freighters

November 04, 2015

EVENDALE, OH -- GE Aviation announced FedEx Express, a wholly owned subsidiary of FedEx Corp,, selected GE’s CF6-80C2 engines to power its recent order of 50 Boeing 767 Freighters. Deliveries for this order are scheduled to begin in 2018.

“FedEx Express is one of largest operators of CF6-powered Freighters, and the engines in this order will incorporate the latest technology to deliver enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions,” said Chaker Chahrour, vice president and general manager of Global Sales and Marketing at GE Aviation.

The CF6-80C2 Performance Improvement Package (PIP) for FedEx Express’ new engines will reduce overall engine fuel burn. The PIP includes enhancements to the fan, high pressure compressor and high pressure turbine from technology advancements in the GEnx engine and the LEAP engine from CFM International (a 50/50 joint venture between GE and Snecma of France) that will improve efficiency and reduce on-wing deterioration. These new technologies will deliver greater than 0.5 percent improvement in specific fuel consumption for FedEx Express’ CF6-80C2-powered Boeing767 Freighters.

GE's CF6 engines have been among the most utilized and reliable in the industry. Powering more than 10 models of wide-body aircraft, the engine family has established an unparalleled record of reliability for more than 40 years with more than 410 million flight-hours in service with more than 250 operators worldwide. More than 3,700 CF6-80C2 engines are in service with more than 175 operators.
