DUBAI -- Emirates Airlines and General Electric Company (GE) recognize one year of outstanding service for the GE90-115B-powered Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with no delays or cancellations, unscheduled engine removals or in-flight shutdowns.
In April 2005, Emirates Airlines began operating a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, powered by the world's most powerful engines--the GE90-115Bs. Today, the airline's 13 GE90-115B-powered 777-300ERs aircraft have logged more than 50,000 flight hours and 8,000 cycles of exceptional performance.
"GE and Emirates Airlines worked months in advance to ensure the engine's entry into service went as planned," said Muhammad Al-Lamadani, Sales General Manager for GE - Aviation. "This one-year anniversary is a great demonstration of the hard efforts of the Emirates' engineering and maintenance teams."
"The GE90-115B engine has earned an outstanding performance record since entering service in May 2004," said Tom Wygle, general manager of the GE90 Engine Program. "Engine reliability has been phenomenal, and fuel burn continues to be better than our predictions."
In 2003, Emirates Airlines leased 26 Boeing 777-300ERs and ordered four additional aircraft. Last year, the airline ordered a total of 42 Boeing 777 aircraft and obtained purchase rights for an additional 20 aircraft. GE90-115B engines power these aircraft.
The GE90-115B is certified at an unprecedented 115,000 pounds (512 kN) thrust and is the powerplant for the Boeing 777-300ER, 777-200LR and the upcoming 777 freighters. The engine entered service almost two years ago and has completed more than 250,000 flight hours and 32,000 cycles with no engine events.
Snecma of France, Avio SpA. of Italy, and IHI of Japan are revenue-sharing participants in the GE90 program.
