Today, we published our Sustainability Report, our first as a standalone aerospace company, featuring our efforts to move innovation forward.
Our sustainability framework ties together our corporate strategy with our purpose across four key dimensions: safety, environment, people, and governance. Our ambitions include achieving net zero carbon for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050 for Scope 3 carbon emissions from the use of sold products for commercial engines.
Chairman and CEO Larry Culp stated, “GE Aerospace technology is central to achieving the industry’s long-term climate goal of net zero carbon emissions. This is both an incredible responsibility and an unparalleled opportunity to advance a safer and more sustainable future.”
Learn more about our progress below:
- Safety first: In 2024, we introduced our proprietary lean operating system FLIGHT DECK, a systematic approach to running the business grounded in safety, quality, delivery and cost – in that order. A strong product safety focus is incorporated in our Safety Management System (SMS), which was the first SMS by an aerospace OEM to be accepted by the U.S. FAA in 2017. Read more on pages 13-19.
- Future of flight: We are taking an across-the-board approach to a more sustainable future of flight, advancing the development of efficient aircraft engines compatible with alternative fuels and collaborating across the industry. For example, our CFM Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines (RISE) program seeks to achieve at least 20% better fuel efficiency compared to our most efficient commercial engines today. In the last year, we simulated Open Fan engine architecture performance using the world’s fastest supercomputer and completed more than 250 tests for the RISE program. Read more on pages 20-30.
- Optimizing operations: We remain focused on our net zero goal, and made progress in 2023 with Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions declining 23% compared to a 2019 baseline. Read more on pages 31-38.
- Empowering people and communities: Our transformation is rooted in our Leadership Behaviors: act with humility, lead with transparency, and deliver with focus. GE Aerospace is focused on attracting, retaining, and developing the best talent. We are passionate about lifting people up in the communities where we live and work, which is evident through our launch of the GE Aerospace Foundation with $22 million in new commitments for Next Engineers, workforce development, disaster relief, and humanitarian aid.
