Chipping in: How one instructor helped launch an apprentice program that is taking off

The story that unfolded in today’s headlines surrounding Pisgah High School in Canton, NC, is that the GE Foundation announced a $100,000 grant to support the continued development of students for machining and advanced manufacturing training. 

However, the build up to Pisgah’s big day has been years in the making thanks to school machining instructor Chip Singleton, who jumped at an opportunity to help build an apprenticeship program.

Singleton is a big reason GE Aviation Asheville plant leader Michael Meguiar recently said, “Pisgah is making Western North Carolina stronger and a more attractive place for employers to locate because of the highly-skilled workers they continue to produce.”
